What's coming up?

It's the first week of the month which means that it is time for my monthly 20 year old album review and this month it is Cinderella's Night Songs. I also hope to have these topics up this week.

-Something relating to the Fourth of July
-Vote for a review
-Concert shirts
-Led Zeppelin 3 review

I might do another topic or two as well.

Here is a question, what are some of the best debut lp's done in the 1980's?
Guns and Roses' Appetite for destruction, Iron Maiden's self titled debut and Dio's Holy Diver all come to my mind right away. How about you?

Off the top of my head:
Marillion—Script for a Jester's Tear (1983)
I could go on from here, but I'll be at it all night! The 80s weren't all bad; you just had to dig a little deeper.

This is a tough one, I can think of a billion singles but an entire album is hard. But following you're 'pick 3' lead and to add to your list, I'd say,

1) Billy Squier, Don't Say No
2) Tesla, Mechanical Resonance
3) Ozzy's solo, Blizzard of Ozz

Frankly, I think it's no contest...Appetite For Destruction.

I agree - the Gunner's first album, before they were consumed by Axl's Appetite for Dysfunction, was the best metal debut album.

As suggested by Vicious Steve, Motley Crue's "Too Fast for Love" and Skid Row's self-titled albums were also great debut albums that deserve honorable mention.

IMHO, Def Leppard's "On Through the Night" was another good debut album.

For hard rock, it's gotta be Appetite. Can I name something softer or will I be flogged? :)
I love Crowded House's debut record. I always felt they were horribly underrated.

Kudos to the guy who listed Billy Squier...I love that record! I do a really painful falsetto singalong with "Nobody Knows" that makes me happy, but anyone within earshot very, very sad.

The Mule-I have never heard Marillion, but always heard good things about them.

Ben-Glad to see you making the rounds again.

Onmywatch-Tesla's debut is my favorite by them far and away.

Vicious Steve-Black -n- Blue get overlooked to often. The year 1984 was a great year for debut lp's. Besides Black -n- Blue other bands that did their debut lp's that year were Ratt, WASP and Queensryche.

Bruce- I agree. 1987 is probably the only year in the 80's where a debut was my favorite album of the year.

Earl-Welcome. Def Leppard's on through the night is a good album that get's overlooked at times.

Beckeye-You can name something softer without being flogged, but I may cringe a bit.
